Steel Mill Cranes
50t Ladle Overhead Crane
A 50 t ladle crane for molten metal handling in a meltshop or foundry, with a 25 m span and 14 m lift height. Its duty is defined by the material: the load is molten, so the load path and the hoisting brake architecture carry a safety case beyond ordinary lifting duty.
Ladle cranes work at low speed with fine control, because the operator is positioning a pouring vessel rather than moving a load from A to B. Heat shielding, cable insulation, lubrication and the maintenance interval all follow from the measured temperature at the crane bridge, and molten metal handling carries additional requirements on hoisting brakes and redundancy in standards such as FEM 1.001.
- Confirm at order: the laden weight of the ladle including skull and attachment, span, lift height, and the pouring speed range required by the process.
- Also agree: the applicable molten-metal standard for the site, the safety architecture and any duplicate drive arrangement, heat protection, control position, and the inspection and test regime.
- Not assumed: a lifting attachment for molten metal is designed for the specific vessel and is confirmed by the manufacturer before the order.

All FAQs›What do you need to know before designing a ladle crane?
The laden weight of the ladle including skull and attachment, the span, the lift height and the pouring speed range the process needs. Add the ambient temperature at the bridge and the applicable molten metal standard for your site, and the safety architecture can be settled.
