Steel Mill Cranes
25t Billet Handling Crane
A 25 t billet handling crane for continuous product movement in a steel plant, with a 24 m span and 12 m lift height. It is a high-cycle machine: the tonnage is moderate, but the crane works continuously, so the duty class and the component selection are driven by the number of lifts rather than by the load weight.
Billet and bloom handling usually means a magnet, C-hook or lifting beam rather than a plain hook, and the attachment changes both the effective load and the reeving. Dust, scale and heat from the product set the protection and lubrication plan.
- Confirm at order: the attachment and its weight, the heaviest single lift and the bundle dimensions, span, lift height and cycles per hour.
- Also agree: duty class from the cycle profile, heat and dust protection, control position, and the attachment design confirmation from the manufacturer.

All FAQs›What makes a molten metal handling crane different?
The consequence of a dropped load is severe, so molten metal handling is treated as a separate safety case. Standards such as FEM 1.001 place additional requirements on hoisting brakes and redundancy. The applicable rule for your site is confirmed before design freeze — it is not inferred from a catalogue class.
›How do you protect the crane from heat and dust?
From the measured conditions at the crane bridge, not from a general industry assumption. Temperature, dust and fume exposure decide the shielding, cable insulation class, enclosure rating, lubrication and the maintenance interval. Those values become part of the specification.
