Steel Service Center & Yard
Service centres and storage yards live on throughput: coils, billets and plates move in and out of storage all day, often outdoors and often with an attachment rather than a hook.
Where cranes work in a service centre
- Coil and billet storage — stacking and de-stacking in bays, frequently with a C-hook, magnet or lifting beam instead of a plain hook.
- Cut-to-length and slitting lines — feeding and removing coils at the line, where positioning accuracy matters.
- Loading and despatch — lifting to and from trucks and rail wagons, usually the busiest single duty on the crane.
- Yard handling — outdoor storage where a gantry crane removes the need for runway beams and building structure.
Operating conditions that shape the design
- Outdoor exposure — rain, wind and temperature range set the enclosure rating, paint system and lubrication.
- Attachment duty — a magnet or C-hook changes the effective load, the number of falls and often the required hoist configuration.
- High cycles with moderate loads — throughput duty usually needs a higher work class than the load weight alone would suggest.
- Ground conditions — gantry rail foundations and yard bearing capacity often decide whether a gantry solution is practical at all.
How the equipment is selected
- Capacity from the heaviest coil, bundle or plate package plus the attachment weight.
- Span from the storage bay width and the truck or wagon access needed at the edge of the bay.
- Work class from cycles per hour and the load spectrum, confirmed against the applicable classification standard.
- Attachment and control — magnet, C-hook or lifting beam, and whether radio control from the ground is required for loading.
- Indoor or outdoor — this single answer decides between an overhead and a gantry solution more often than anything else.
What to send with your inquiry
- Heaviest coil or bundle, and the attachment you intend to use.
- Bay width, stacking height and the truck or wagon dimensions at the loading point.
- Outdoor or indoor, and the yard or track situation.
- Cycles per hour and shifts per day.
- Power supply, control preference and destination port.
