Application background

Block assembly is the core of mid-size shipyard lifting: hull sections are moved from fabrication to the outfitting berth, turned and joined, then lifted again for finishing. Loads are large but not always at full crane capacity, and a typical scenario pairs an indoor overhead crane for workshop work with a gantry crane for open-air block handling.

Configuration considerations

A 30 t overhead crane covers workshop block turning and sub-assembly, while a Goliath-type gantry crane serves the open stock and launch area where an indoor runway is not an option. Outdoor gantry cranes need wind rating for parked and operating conditions, and tandem lifting should be engineered case by case with the load characteristics in hand. Underslung or top-running arrangements are chosen against the building structure.

What to confirm before ordering

  • Heaviest block weight and lifting point layout
  • Indoor versus outdoor coverage and building interface
  • Wind class for outdoor gantry operation and parking
  • Hook height over the transport route
  • Whether tandem lifts are planned and with which loads
